Savarkar fest

Almost by magic, when my interest in Savarkar began to grow, I find this news item. There is a Savarkar fest to be held in Mumbai.

My interest grew largely after knowing that Savarkar penned the "Jayostute" song, which has been set to such great music.

After the ManiShankar Ayyer controversy regarding Savarkar I just tried to understand Mr. Ayyer's point of view. Till then I had an image of Savarkar who was a brave and heroic revolutionary, who made a daring escape from a ship and later underwent immense hardship in the Andamans before his release. Even today I get goose bumps listening to "Jayostute" and "Ne majasi ne parat Maatru bhumi la". Unfortunately my belif was shaken after a brief look at the "other side".
